The companion handbook (Handbook) presents an overview of the resources and tools included on the website that support compatible use planning and coordination. This technical assistance resource provides the military and Maryland communities key points from the website to print, distribute, and share as needed to support compatible use, best practices, and support continued military operations, community growth, and economic development.

The Handbook should be used to introduce readers to military and community compatible use and the resources that are available at the local, state, and federal level to promote it. The summary information contained in the Handbook is intended to enhance general understanding of the subject matter and efficiently direct readers to detailed information on the website using hyperlinks and interactive images. The Handbook also contains easy to find contact information for each of the featured installation’s Public Affairs Office.

How to Use This Handbook

Organization of the Handbook mirrors the layout of the Compatible Use Website. Each numbered section of the Handbook corresponds to a website tab (i.e., Section 1: About relates to the “About” tab on the website). Readers can easily navigate between sections of the Handbook by using the interactive Table of Contents (TOC) bar located on the left or righthand side of each page. Additionally, readers can quickly access any of the corresponding content in greater detail located on the website by using the red linked section headers throughout the Handbook.
